Vermouth
Vermouth is an apéritif with deep historical roots. The modern versions we know and love today, such as Cinzano and 1757, first popped up in Italy towards the end of the 1700s, but it’s actually been sipped medicinally by Italians since the 1500s already.
In fact, the story goes that the first infusion of its kind was made using a wine-based maceration of wormwood and dictamnus leaves, which is where the name comes from (wermut is the German word for wormwood).
Today, vermouth is found in countless classic and contemporary cocktails.
