Despite what its alluring name might suggest, the French Martini actually hails from New York. Perky and pretty with a tempting sugar rim, the Lemon Drop Martini was named after a hard candy popular in the 1970s. Odds are you’ve probably seen them in your granny’s candy bowl. Happily, the cocktail itself is not fuddy-duddy by any means. Combining citrus vodka, orange liqueur, lemon juice, and simple syrup, it’s a lively sip with plenty of pep.

The Vodka Tonic is a simple, sophisticated drink that can be kept low-key for casual get-togethers with friends or dressed up for dinner parties. Build it in a highball glass for something light and refreshing or in a tumbler for a slightly stronger slow sipper.

16. Strawberry Shrub Cocktail

A shrub drink calls for a non-alcoholic syrup made with concentrated fruit, sugar, and vinegar. The syrup can be used in mocktails or in cocktails that call for an acidic fruity twist.
