History of the Banana Daiquiri
The original Daiquiri is a cocktail featuring citrus and rum, and just the right amount of sugar to hit that sweet spot. It’s been around for over a century, and it was invented by the American engineer Jennings Cox in 1898 in the Cuban city of – you guessed it – Daiquiri. Legend has it that the engineer ran out of gin during a cocktail party, and since rum is highly popular in Cuba, it turned out to be a great substitute for his punch. The other two ingredients were lemons and brown sugar. The Daiquiri was a huge hit and was soon transported to America, where its worldwide success began.
Variations
Thanks to all the recipes out there, you’ll be spoilt for choice when planning your next summer cocktail party. Here are a few of our faves.
Frozen version
Looking for a refreshing sweet treat to cool you down in the summer heat? Then the frozen version of the recipe is the perfect choice. Turning this lush cocktail into a dessert in a glass is easy and only requires a good blender. Gather all the ingredients for the shaken version, but replace the banana liqueur with a ripe banana. Add everything into a blender and blend until smooth. Bon appe-sip!
Strawberry version
This fruity combo works wonders in smoothies, so it’s no surprise that the Strawberry Banana Daiquiri recipe is a hit. It’s easy to make, light and delicious, and ticks all the boxes for a perfect pool party drink. Make it by combining rum, fresh strawberries, a frozen banana, orange juice and granulated sugar in a blender with ice. Blitz until frosty, and you’re done.
Frozen Pineapple version
Piña Colada aficionados might have a new favorite after trying this pineapple-laced recipe. Another one for unbearably hot days, you can make this frozen cocktail by blending fresh pineapple and banana with rum, orange curaçao, and lime juice. If you don’t have a blender, you can use banana purée and pineapple juice for an equally tasty drink.
Gold Lust version
The name itself tells you all you need to know about this incredible frozen cocktail. Inspired by Minthe, the Greek nymph transformed into the mint plant, the Gold Lust Frozen Daiquiri combines rum, pineapple, mint-infused simple syrup, lime juice, and lemon juice. Frosty, fresh, and ideal for summer.
When to serve
The Banana Daiquiri tastes like summer in a glass and is a great addition to your pool and beach party menus. What’s more, this boozy adult slushie can easily be made in a batch, which makes it a great solution for fuss-free entertainment.
