Two smokey Poison Apple cocktails for Halloween

Create a bit of hocus-pocus at your next Halloween party with a tempting poison apple cocktail. There are loads of variations of this poison apple drink recipe. Our favourite is the version where you get to sprinkle in a bit of magic (or edible gold glitter for those who don’t believe in wizardry). It’s a magical red and golden swirly cocktail so captivating that your friends will be tempted to take a sip (and then ask for the recipe!)

Poison Apple cocktail recipe

The poison apple cocktail is one of our favourite Halloween cocktails and, while it’s inspired by the story of Snow White and her famous poison apple induced sleep, we promise it won’t have the same effect on you. To make this eerie-looking drink, you will need apple cider, cranberry juice, fireball, grenadine, and edible glitter—which you’ll easily find in the baking section of most supermarkets.

QUICK TIPS

01

For an awesome swirly effect, add edible glitter to your cocktail ingredients and give it a really good shake before serving.

02

Brush fresh lemon juice over apple slices to keep them from browning.

03

If you’re not a cinnamon whiskey fan, replace it with apple schnapps.

Make it into a Halloween punch cocktail

You can easily turn your poison apple drink into a punch that will please a crowd. Instead of shaking the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, you’re going to combine them in a blender (without the ice). To make a poison apple punch for 8 people, you will need 590 ml apple cider, 590 ml cranberry juice, 470 ml fireball, 235 ml grenadine and 2 teaspoons of edible glitter. Combine everything (except the glitter) in a large pitcher and keep it in the fridge to make sure it gets icy cold. When your guests arrive, pour half of the chilled mixture into a blender, add 1 teaspoon of edible glitter and blend until you get the swirly effect. Repeat until you’ve used up all the ingredients – you should be able to get this done in 2 batches. Pour into lowball glasses and serve immediately. For extra Halloween finesse, why not try serving this punch in a hollowed-out pumpkin? It’s the perfect homemade spooky punch bowl!

Poison Apple cocktail variations

As is true with most cocktails, this one comes with a few variations—all of which are easy Halloween drinks for adults

  • For a poison apple cocktail that’s all about the apples, replace the fireball with apple schnapps.
  • For a more grown-up taste, leave out the cranberry juice, fireball, glitter, and grenadine. Add 30 ml brandy and 30ml rum instead and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
  • Fun ghoulish Halloween garnish options include gummy worms poking out of apple wedges or dry ice to give it that classic witches brew look. Read our tips and tricks on how to use dry ice safely.
