Negroni Week (opens in new window) first hit the scene in 2013, starting out with just 120 bars pouring Campari, gin, and vermouth for a cause. Fast-forward to today, and what began as a small idea has blown up into a global movement with thousands of venues and countless fans raising a glass together.

At its core, nothing’s changed: it’s still about giving back while celebrating one of the world’s most legendary cocktails. That’s the magic of the Negroni: simple, bold, and powerful enough to unite people everywhere. And now, as Campari Negroni Week turns 13, you’re invited to join the party and sip for a cause.

What is Negroni Week?

More than just a global toast to one of the most iconic cocktails ever created, Negroni Week is an initiative with fundraising at its heart. It was launched by Imbibe Magazine (opens in new window) with Campari (opens in new window) as the founding sponsor, with the idea that every Negroni cocktail poured during this time carries a charitable purpose.

Over time, Negroni Week has grown from a small initiative into a worldwide movement, proving that something as simple as a cocktail can bring people together for good.

With just three ingredients and a storied history, the Negroni is one of those rare clinkers that gets the universal thumbs up. In existence for over a century, it has moved beyond the cocktail world into mainstream culture.

Now a global phenomenon known across all continents, and with Negroni Week a celebration of all things Negroni, it’s also the perfect vehicle to harness the cocktail’s international fame and fortune for good. For one week every September, bars and restaurants across the world become a canvas for the OG aperitivo trio of gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth.

Every shake, stir, pour and toast is done in the spirit of giving, as mixologists and patrons come together to celebrate this classic Italian cocktail.

Sipping for a good cause

Back in 2013, the world was riding high on a wave of Negroni popularity. When Imbibe Magazine launched Negroni Week with Campari as the main supporter, little did they know that the idea would spread like wildfire, capturing the hearts of bartenders, restaurant owners, cocktail enthusiasts, and philanthropists alike.

As the event grew, so did its reach and impact. Charitable organizations across the globe benefited from the generosity of Negroni Week participants. In just a few short years, the movement began to see measurable real-world results.

Despite the humble beginnings of Negroni Week history, the event has raised over $5 million in its 13 years of existence, helping thousands in need and changed lives for the better through its mantra of ‘sipping for a cause’. The 2025 event alone brought in over $700,000 via more than 15,000 participating venues across 97 countries.

Partnering with Slow Food

In 2022, the organizers announced that they would now have a single global nonprofit partner in Slow Food. Founded in Italy in the late 1980s, Slow Food (opens in new window) is an advocacy group and global movement of activists and communities working across more than 160 countries to support sustainability, education, fairness, and biological and cultural diversity in food and beverage.

Envisioning a world of good, clean, and fair food for all, the organization runs several programmes through which it promotes ethical production, the support of small-scale farmers through conscious food choices, and the transfer of traditional knowledge and skill, among other things.

In 2022 alone, Negroni Week raised $500,000 in support of Slow Food’s mission.

Bars and brands making an impact

So how do Negroni Week events work? Participating bars and restaurants register online to become partner venues for a small donation. Every venue earns a spot on Negroni Week’s world map (opens in new window), which is searchable by country and town.

The idea is that each venue must offer a classic Negroni or any variation for the duration of the week. Bartenders are encouraged to get creative and think of weird and wonderful new recipes.

The friendly competition has grown over the years, with popular variations often returning year after year. Some bars raise the stakes even higher by hosting unique fundraising events with all proceeds donated to charity.

You can show your support by visiting these venues, sipping on a Negroni, and helping create awareness. The more people taking part in Negroni Week events, the better the results. It sounds almost too simple to make a real difference, but that’s the beauty of the idea.

Much like the cocktail itself, Negroni Week is a simple but powerful concept that works across continents and cultures and shows no signs of slowing down. The number of venues continues to grow, with patrons counting down the days until kick-off. Negroni Week’s supported by a world-class lineup of brands, including Campari and Bulldog London Dry Gin (opens in new window), and with their ongoing support, it’ll continue to thrive.
