How to make Frozen Mango Margaritas

You only need four ingredients! Up first, the tequila. The tequila is going to be centre stage in this cocktail so make sure you choose a top-shelf bottle for the ultimate taste. We love Cabo Wabo (opens in new window) and Espolõn Tequila Blanco (opens in new window), as both deliver a clean zesty base for your sassy sipper. For the mango, use frozen mango as it’s easy to find and ready to blend. Finally, to add some zesty tang and to balance the mango sweetness, use freshly squeezed lime juice and a dash of simple syrup. If you’re feeling fancy and want to serve your Margarita in true Mexican style, salt the rim of your glass and garnish with a slice of lime.

All that’s needed next is to blend for a slushy-like texture. It’s that easy!

What is the best tequila?

The key to making the best version of this drink lies in choosing a top shelf blanco tequila. It will blend well without overpowering the other flavours. Our recommendation is the zesty Espolõn Tequila Blanco; the grilled pineapple and vanilla notes offer a perfect tropical base.

How to salt the rim

Pouring a legit Margarita with all the sass needs a salted rim. This super sweet cocktail recipe also benefits from the punchy salt to balance the flavours. Always use kosher or sea salt, avoiding table or fine salt which is too intense.

To salt the rim of your cocktail glass, tip salt onto a saucer and wet the edge of the glass with a wedge of lime so that the salt has something to stick to. Dip the glass into the salt and twist to coat fully. Tap off any excess and enjoy! Have fun with different flavour combos by adding some lime zest or chilli flakes into the salt too.

Tips on making this the best cocktail yet!

Here are our top tips:

No blender? No problem! If you don’t have a blender, use mango puree and shake in a mason jar or cocktail shaker with ice until frosty. It won’t be as thick but it will be just as tasty

Up the citrus: For an extra kick, add a dash of Grand Marnier orange liqueur to bump up the citrusy flavours

Personalise: Cocktail perfection is subjective. If it’s too thick, add a little bit of water or ice and blend briefly. If it’s too sweet, add more lime. If it’s not sweet enough, add more simple syrup

Spice it up: Add some jalapeño slices to ramp up the spice if you like it hot

Easy & delicious ingredient substitutions

  • For other fruity Margarita variations swap your mango with papaya or pineapple, or go wild and use a tropical mix of all three.
  • Summer juicy plums would make an unusually tasty Margarita too!
  • Add more flavour and use a vanilla-infused simple syrup
  • Make a spicy rim and add some cayenne powder or chilli to your salted rim

What to serve with your tropical Margaritas

These sweet tropical flavours pair so well with spicy foods, perfect for when you’re hosting a Mexican fiesta or Cinco de Mayo party.

Light snacks:

  • Guacamole and corn tortilla chips
  • Grilled pineapple, chilli and mint salsa
  • Fish tacos with lime and black beans

More substantial bites:

  • Spicy steak tacos with cilantro and lime
  • Spicy vegan “pulled” mushroom tacos
  • Slow cooker beef barbacoa with corn salsa
  • Corn, chilli, cilantro and black bean salad

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

To sweeten the drink, we add in a simple syrup. You can adjust the sweetness to suit your taste, just add a little less syrup if you have supersweet mangoes.

If you follow our recipe to the letter and add 20 ml of sugar syrup, you'd be adding about 20 g of sugar to your cocktail.
