Green Monster cocktail for Halloween

This outrageously gruesome Green Monster Cocktail might make you think of Monsters Inc and Mike Wazowski’s Scare-o-meter. However, once you get over the ghoulish color, it’s actually surprisingly tasty! Serve this scrumptiously sweet drink at your next Halloween party to creep out and delight your guests in equal measure. Given its green color, it’s also a great choice for St Patrick’s Day celebrations!

QUICK TIPS

01

For gory blood-curdling drips, paint grenadine around the rim of the glass

02

Add a little frog spawn and stir in a little chia seeds to settle in the bottom of the glass

03

The classic Green Monster Cocktail recipe

Making this ghoulish Green Monster drink is much easier than you think as there are zero complicated mixing techniques or tools required. Start by choosing a good quality tequila like Cabo Wabo Blanco for an excellent base to build this crazy cocktail. Once you have your base, funk it up with banana and melon flavors! These two are poured in equal measures, so that’s easy to remember! For the banana flavor, choose a banana syrup that offers that ripe banana flavor with sweet caramel tones. Then, to get the monstrous color, we need a vibrant neon green melon liqueur to bring all the crazy to this Green Monster drink and other green Halloween Cocktails.

How to serve the Green Monster Cocktail?

Since you won’t break a sweat mixing this easy Halloween cocktail, it leaves you more time to get fancy with your ghoulish garnishes:

  • For green on green, use a peeler and pare strips of cucumber. Stick these either in circles or strips into the inside of the glass
  • Make a green salty-sweet rim, mix grainy sugar and salt with a drop of green food coloring in a saucer, wet the rim of your glass with a lemon wedge and dip it into the saucer to coat
  • For a crunchy rim, crush some graham crackers, wet the rim of your glass with lemon juice and dip

Substitution and variations

Originally this Green Monster drink was mixed with fabulously green banana liqueur but it’s not easily available. In our version, we’ve kept the Green Monster cocktail dream alive with banana syrup instead.

If you aren’t a melon fan, try this cocktail with a green apple liqueur or sour instead. You can even switch things up entirely by ditching the tequila and doubling down on the apple flavor with an apple Sambuca.
